Dugopolje is a small municipality in the outskirts of Dalmatian Zagora, 15 km from the city of Split, the largest city on the Croatian coast. Dugopolje has an ideal geographic location because it is located at the intersection of the state highway A1 Zagreb-Split-Dubrovnik, which connects the north and south of Croatia, and the county expressway D1 Split-Sinj, which connects the coast and the interior of Central Dalmatia. Dugopolje is located at the exit to the city of Split from the A1 highway, it is only 28 km from the international airport Split-Kaštela, and 18 km from the international passenger port of Split and the railway station Split. The most attractive destinations on the coast of Central Dalmatia are half an hour away (Trogir, Omiš) and 45 min. by car (Makarska riviera), and at approximately the same distance there are also the pearls of Dalmatian Zagora – the towns of Sinj and Imotski. Biking, trekking, hiking are just some of the activities you can do in this part of Dalmatian Zagora. Tourism activity in the area of Dugopolje municipality is at the very beginning, but it has great potential in active and sports tourism. The natural beauty of this area is manifested through the untouched nature of the northern slopes of the Mosor mountain and the Vranjača cave in the settlement of Kotlenice – a protected geomorphological monument of nature.
Split is the largest city in Dalmatia, and the second largest city in Croatia in terms of population, and represents the economic and cultural centre of Dalmatia. Split is an inter-county traffic centre and an extremely visited tourist destination, and it is directly connected by sea to all Central Dalmatian islands as well as to Italy. The core of the city itself is rich in many contents, the most famous of which is Diocletian’s Palace, which was built at the beginning of the 4th century by order of the Roman emperor Diocletian, and since October 26, 1979, it has been under UNESCO protection. Split is surrounded by two large mountains, Mosor with the highest peak of 1330m and Kozjak with the highest peak of 780m. The western part of Split is covered by a forest park, the 178m high Marjan hill, and on it there is a considerable number of small churches, some of which are very old and are valuable archaeological monuments. Marjan is the most important natural resource of Split, a favourite recreation area
for hiking, walking, running, cycling, climbing, swimming, etc., and an increasingly popular tourist attraction
because of the surrounding beaches, preserved nature and cultural institutions.
